Balloon Safari Serengeti

Balloon safaris in Tanzania

are a romantic and evocative way of experiencing the wilderness of East Africa, as you gracefully and silently fly over the plains teeming with herds of wild life in the early morning. Typically, a ballon safari begins between 6 am and lasts for around 1-2 hours, during which you will likely see the magnificent wildlife below over several square kilometres of the game park. Ballon safaris are held regularly only in the Serengeti and take off from designated sites (in the Seronera area) where the disturbance to animals is kept to a minimum. Your safari vehicle drops you off at the take off site and picks you up from your landing site. The safari is followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush, a fitting end to your memorable flight in the wild.Maximum in a balloon: 16 adultsBALLOONS: are top of the range Cameron & Ultra Magic A315 & A415. Colours: acacia green & Savannah gold to blend with those of the Serengeti. Burners: state of the art ‘whisper & stealth”.

The balloon ride

5:00 am, Serengeti Balloon Safaris will collect you from your central Serengeti lodge or camp, and transfer you by Landrover to our launch site near Maasai Kopjes. Here you will meet your pilot, receive a briefing and watch the inflation of your balloon.

At dawn we take off, rising as the sun rises and float in whichever direction the winds of the morning take us. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below.

At other times he will ascend to 1000 ft. (300m) or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. From time to time the pilot increases more heat into the balloon with the powerful whisper burners. In between these burns, there is silence apart from the natural sounds below.

The flight is for about one hour depending on conditions, on landing you celebrate in the traditional manner with champagne (well, an excellent sparkling wine), before sitting down to a full English breakfast prepared and served in the bush in ‘Out of Africa’ style with bone china, linen table cloths, King’s silver etc. After breakfast you receive your Serengeti Balloon certificate and we drive you back to Seronera Lodge game viewing enroute. 9:30 am arrive at Seronera ready to continue your day’s activities.

IMPORTANT NOTE:This adventure will fit in with all safari itineraries that include a night in central Serengeti (Serena Lodge, Seronera Lodgeor Sopa Lodge or any of the central Serengeti camp sites, also from our camp Mapito).Since 2008 there is a new launching area at Western Serengeti, Kirawira, which makes balloon Safaris comfortable from Serena and Kirawira, Mbalageti, Grumeti River Lodge and other western lodges!
RESTRICTIONS: children under the age of 7 are not allowed on the balloons.

At Serengeti (USD 499 per person)

The Kilimanjaro golf course is scheduled for completion in 2014, with many dramatic features emerging as construction proceeds. The extensive system of streams and lakes are adding another dimension to the existing landscape and creating a new habitat for small mammals and birds.

USGA specification

The par for the golf course will be 72, with the traditional mix of four par threes, four par fives, and ten par fours. There will be four sets of tees for each hole, allowing the course to be played from a championship length of around 6,500 metres down to a gentle 5,400 metres. All the greens will be built to USGA specification. With large greens, subtle changes of elevation, and strategically placed bunkers, the course has been designed to allow all golfers a fair route to the fairways and greens. Fairways and greens are bordered by water features, indigenous plants, native grasses and trees adding drama to the landscape.

We’ll continue on to some heath land before reaching our overnight camp at Machame Camp (9,850 feet, 6-7 hours of walking), just above the forest zone. The trek is quite long, thus not steep. and mud on the forest floor.

We’ll overnight at Shira Camp (12,600 feet, 5-6 hours of walking).

Overnight at Shira Camp. All meals included.

Day 4: Mt Kilimanjaro – Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

We’ll draw nearer the peak as we get closer to the Lava Tower. Barranco Camp is set on a col (flat area) enclosed on three sides with steep valley walls and the Kibo massif itself. Hanging glaciers glint in the sunshine above, amidst the eerie landscape of plants such as the giant groundsels (Senecio Kilimanjari), and the uniquely endemic Giant Lobelia. Then we slowly ascent to our overnight stop at Barranco Camp (12,950 feet, 5-6 hours of walking). This day and the following day will be your acclimatisation time.

Overnight at Karanga Valley Camp. All meals included.

Day 6: Mt Kilimanjaro – Karanga Valley Camp to Barafu Camp

As dawn nears, we’ll summit at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19,340 feet. Uhuru will be the culmination of – and the reward for – 6-7 hours of strenuous hiking. We’ll then descend back to Barafu Camp, resting for a while before continuing our descent to Mweka Camp (9,840 feet, 3-4 hours of walking on the descent).

14 days Happy Family Summer Special Northern Tanzania Safari and Zanzibar 2015

Happy Family Summer Special Valid for June/July/August 2015

A combination of some days in the bush at Northern Tanzania and at the white palm-fringed beaches of Zanzibar is one of our most requested programs, and we have adjusted it to make it even more suitable for the needs of families and children. It combines all Tanzanian highlights like Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro with some outdoor activities ‘beyond game drive’. Emphasis has been laid on short distances between destinations and family/children friendly accommodations – all with family rooms or interconnecting rooms, and occasionally a swimming pool to freshen up after a long dusty day on game viewing.

Day 01 ARRIVAL

You will be met at the International Airport of Kilimanjaro by your driver/guide and our representative We will take you to the Meru View Lodge or Kiboko Lodge , both simple but charming lodges at the slopes of Mt. Meru with beautiful views. Our safari manager will come to meet you and to provide you with a safari briefing.

Day 02 Arusha National Park

After breakfast drive to Arusha National Park, once the site of the action packed Hollywood movie Hatari, starring John Wayne and Hardy Kruger. You pass by herds of zebra, buffalo, and giraffe on the savannah. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Momella Lake, famous for huge flocks of colourful flamingos and its views at majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro. You continue in the afternoon with a game drive around the different habitats in this truly beautiful national park. There are black and white colobus monkeys (unique to this location northern Tanzania), Sykes’s and vervet monkeys, shy forest duikers, elusive leopards and substantial herds of antelope.
If you wish, you can hike at the slopes of Mt Meru in dense forest or at the Crater rim while an armed ranger escorts you to protect you from some of the larger animals.

Yes, great! But we would like to amend the itinerary a little.

Instead of the village tour your guides can also take you to a large banana plantation, one of the basics of local economy life and explain you about this agricultural meaning. Later you can walk through a small forest inhabited by monkeys and dikdiks which leads to Miwaleni River. Following the river is a thrilling (maybe little strenuous) hike and climb over rocks and stones until you finally reach Miwaleni Waterfall hidden in the Rift Valley Escarpment.
After lunch at your lodge and some rest you can go for a bicycle ride in the plains towards Lake Manyara.

Overnight at Rift Valley Lodge. All meals included.

Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds you can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species.

Follow the Serengeti Wildebeest Migration in December

The Serengeti Wildebeest Migration – an extraordinary wildlife event

The Serengeti Wildebeest Migration is an extraordinary wildlife event and a life time experience for an animal lover. 1,5 million wildebeests around Serengeti searches for fresh water and nutritious grass. Following them are large numbers of zebras, different kinds of gazelles and hungry predator cats luring in the grass around them. The migration has been fairly investigated but still it is hard to foresee its exact movements since it is depending on when the rain comes. Our Serengeti Wildebeest Migration itinerary adjusts to the migration to make sure you come as close as possible to the animals. We can assure that you will have a great safari experience !
